1. Question: What is the mission of Anseye Pou Ayiti (APA)?
Answer: Anseye Pou Ayiti will raise education outcomes in disadvantaged areas of Haiti by recruiting and training outstanding teachers for existing schools. Transformational teaching and leadership will equip all children with the knowledge, skills, and mindsets to achieve their full potential with equal opportunity, pursue lives of mutual prosperity, and contribute to a more enlightened 21st century world.
2. Question: Is APA an international organization?
Answer: No – it is a local non-profit organization with all programs conducted in Haiti, led and staffed by a Haitian team. Our entire team works toward a common vision: strengthening the quality of the Haitian education system. Establishing partnerships is a priority for APA, including with our placement schools, civil society organizations, mission-aligned groups within and outside of Haiti, and we also uphold the curriculum and standards of the Haitian Ministry of Education (MENFP).
3. Question: If selected for the APA cohort, when does a teacher leader’s commitment begin?
Answer: The two-year commitment of APA’s teacher leaders begins with Summer Immersion (an intensive four-week training taking place from Monday through Friday, required for all selected cohort members). During 2017, the anticipated start date is July 24. The teacher leaders are Anseye Pou Ayiti cohort members during two consecutive school years after Summer Immersion.
4. Question: Once the school year begins, when will the training sessions take place?
Answer: Once the school year begins, the training sessions will take place throughout the school year – typically on a school or national holiday – in one of the regions/communes where cohort members are placed.
5. Question: And after the two-year Anseye Pou Ayiti fellowship?
Answer: Anseye Pou Ayiti is much more than a two-year fellowship. We are investing in top Haitian talent for the long haul, so Anseye Pou Ayiti alumni ambassadors remain in Haiti and fill a critical gap in local capacity. Our alumni ambassadors will be career teachers driving groundbreaking student success, school leaders, instructional coaches, policy makers, and members of Haitian philanthropy and business sectors who continually promote equal educational opportunity for all Haitian children.
6. Question: As a cohort member, will I be a full-time classroom teacher in the APA partner school where I am placed?
Answer: All APA cohort members will be responsible for a class (one grade level) on a full-time basis and under the supervision of the school administration. One of Anseye Pou Ayiti’s team of pedagogical coaches will also be available for ongoing support and coaching.
7. Question: Is APA “responsible” for a school or a training center?
Answer: No, the mission of APA is focused on strengthening the quality of education by working in partnership with existing primary schools in Haiti (APA will not build nor open its own schools). Our training program is developed for our cohort of teacher leaders, grounded in promoting and expanding a model of high-impact pedagogy and unified leadership. We are recruiting and investing in exceptional leaders for the long term, so our alumni ambassadors (the graduates of our two-year fellowship) fill a critical gap in local capacity across multiple sectors.
8. Question: I am a professional specializing in a field other than education. May I still apply?
Answer: Yes, all professionals regardless of their field/specialty are encouraged to apply, as it is most critical to have an interest in strengthening the education system in Haiti and making a commitment to become an ambassador of APA’s mission after the two-year fellowship.
9. Question: How to apply to become an APA teacher leader?

10. Question: What are the 2017 recruitment dates, including the application deadline?
January 9—application available
March 31—application submission deadline
April 17—candidates notified of their status
April 18 through May 19—selection exercises and interviews (4-part process)
May 31—notification for final selection of 2017 cohort
11. Question: What is the minimum age requirement to become an APA teacher leader?
Answer: All candidates must be at least 18 years old to apply to join the Anseye Pou Ayiti cohort, along with meeting the required qualifications. There is no age limit to apply.
12. Question: What is the required level of educational attainment for candidates?
Answer: At minimum, all candidates must have successfully completed their secondary studies (Bacc II).
13. Question: In which regions/communes in Haiti will APA cohort members be placed?
Answer: Gonaïves, Gros-Morne, Mirebalais, Boucan Carre, and Hinche will be our school placement regions/communes for the 2017 cohort (within the Artibonite and Plateau Central departments). Over time, APA seeks to expand into different departments and integrate additional placement schools.
14. Question: Who is responsible for the cost of the ongoing training?
Answer: During the four-week Summer Immersion and ongoing training sessions during the school year, APA will be responsible for the participation costs of its selected cohort members.
15. Question: Will cohort members sign a contract?
Answer: Yes, each selected cohort member will sign a contract with Anseye Pou Ayiti as well as a contract with the school where he/she will work.
16. Question: Will cohort members receive a salary from APA?
Answer: All APA cohort members will receive their salary from the partner school where they work during the school year, as well as a monthly stipend during the two-year fellowship.
17. Question: If I am not from the region where I will work as a cohort member, will APA provide lodging?
Answer: APA will not be able to provide lodging for cohort members during the school year. However, we are committed to facilitating the transition of all teacher leaders into the region where they will work, including APA staff members communicating with local partners as well as compiling contacts and recommendations to ensure proper negotiations take place for lodging.
